The star put on a few pounds because of the lupus medication. She confides about it and how the comments have affected her.
These past few years haven't been easy for Selena Gomez. The star is battling lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, as well as mental health issues.
In the podcast "Giving Back Generation", she explained that the treatment she is undergoing has had an impact on her weight. A side effect that is difficult to accept when living in the public eye.
According to the 27-year-old, lupus, high blood pressure and taking medication have contributed to frequent fluctuations in her weight, among other things. "To be honest, my weight may even change from month to month. But I noticed that I gained weight when people started criticizing me for it," she said. "It really hit me. It really ruined my life for a while."
"I don't need to see what people are saying about it."
This mockery has led her to leave social networks for some time. Although she is now back on Instagram, she says she no longer reads comments under her posts. "I live my life in the moment, and that's fine with me. I post a picture and then I just close the application, that's all. I'm going to appear on a red carpet, I'm going to go anywhere, but I don't need to see what people say about it. I participated, I felt wonderful, and that's the end of it."
